‘Aakhir FILM hai Hindustani’

Lets find out the list of best Independence Day movies which has been made in Bollywood

The land, on which one is born and brought up and lives, is naturally dear to him than any other land. This love for his birthplace grows into patriotism. An individual citizen who is loyal to it at all cost, even at the cost of his own life is a patriot. And we can see a patriot in everyone, it runs in their blood, the patriotic spirit of being an Indian.

This 67th Independence Day has bought with itself a series of die-hard patriotism. To charge oneself and get a feel of patriotism one must watch a bunch of patriotic hindi films. No doubt the story of India’s freedom struggle has been narrated by Bollywood time and again. Many Patriotic theme based movies have been released.  And always putting an effort to make a movie on Nationalism is certainly commendable. But don’t you think you can watch patriotic films throughout the year and yet feel the same sense of pride every time? For the same reason we compiled our all-time favourite patriotic films made in Bollywood. Here's remembering eight patriotic movies of 21st century that will be remembered for times to come.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag 2013
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag will certainly leave you with a sense of pride for having the legendary athlete as a fellow countryman. It is perhaps one such piece of cinematic art that bridges the gap between the sportsman and the various incidents that led him to superstardom. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s film is a tribute to the legendary sportsman. Watch it for Farhan Akhtar.

Chak De! India 2007
The movie starred Shahrukh Khan in an unconventional role of a Hockey player turned coach, this ground-breaking sports drama not only highlights a patriotic angle beautifully, but also underlines gender equality with conviction. SRK, in one of his best screen-recitals by far, as a no-nonsense hockey coach, dives under the skin of the emotional yet unwavering role, making it his own.

Rang De Basanti 2006
Rang De Basanti was the ‘coming of the age’ genre film. The film chronicled about a young idealistic English film-maker, Sue, who arrives in India to make a film on Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and their contemporaries and their fight for freedom from the British Raj. It went on to create a significant history for itself and one of the best patriotic films for the current Indian youth.

Swades 2004
Swadesh is a thought-provoking creation that fills the youth with the desire to do their bit for their country. This was Shahrukh’s best performance for me and still it didn’t get the result it deserved. A well to do NRI comes to India in search of his Nanny and ultimately finds it difficult to break the bond of attachment to his homeland. It was reported that many NRI’s saw the movie, got inspired and permanently returned back to India.

Lakshya 2004
One of the most inspiring movies of the recent times. A coming-of-age flick set against the backdrop of the 1999 Kargil war, it finely tells a poignant story with ease. How an aimless man discoveres his ultimate goal, is the crux of this Farhan Akhtar product. As told Lakshya was Hrithik’s one of the best performances and it was a brilliant portrayal of human emotion during wartime.

The Legend of Bhagat Singh 2002
In this film, Ajay Devgan plays the role of his lifetime. He perfectly fits into the character of Bhagat Singh and displays his passions for his country. There have been quite a few movies based on Bhagat Singh’s life and there is no doubt that this is the best among them. Ajay Devgan even got the National Award for his brilliant portrayal of Bhagat Singh.

Lagaan 2001
India’s official Oscar entry that year and it almost made the Best Foreign Film award its own that year if not for some bad luck. Lagaan dealt with the issue of Patriotism in a slightly different way. It integrated the concept of India’s most watched game Cricket with Nationality issue. The result as expected turned out to be a huge success and the movie shows the true worth of Indians when given a chance.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha 2001
The legendary Sunny Deol starrer movie broke all the box office records back then. Gadar created a historic feat of achieving phenomenal business returns as well as triggering the emotions of many Indians in the process too! The Love Story of an Indian Male with that of a Pakistani Girl set against the backdrop of Partition. Add to it a mix of brilliant music, great dialogues and brilliant acting.

Picture abhi baaki hai…
Mother India 1957
Haqeeqat 1964
Shaheed 1965
1942 A Love Story 1994
Border 1997

Where are my Sparrows gone?

Sparrows, one of man’s oldest living commensals. Oh! Are they alive?

No, I cannot see them anymore. Today, most Indians would perhaps know this bird only through photographs. The bird is listed as ‘least concern’ in the IUCN Red list.

As an avid bird watcher I am shocked to learn that the sparrow is difficult to locate in urban India. Earlier I used to see sparrows daily by the side of my apartment. It flies in and out of terrace holes unmindful of bumper to bumper traffic. And I remember sparrows building their nests in the roof rafters, carrying pieces of straw, feathers and twigs. Now, gone are the days when little birdie was flying through my balcony.

Believed in Nokia’s tagline ‘Connecting People’ as the bird lives only among humans, now seems that connection got faded between the human and birdie.

Pollution may be a factor or pest controlling around us, from communication towers to use of steel and glass in our buildings that has reduced the availability of nesting sites and food. Similarly, the vulture population in India collapsed not due to any lack of food, but due to the use of certain medicines for cattle, consumption of whose meat led to kidney failure in vultures.

The simple act of providing millets strew in the terraces, garden hedge or a nesting box are all that it will take to protect a bird that lives alongside humans but is fast disappearing. C’mon do your bit.

Who are you to judge us?

It's 9:00 pm. Time to catch the daily dose of a shrill debate on a news channel.

C’mon aren’t you getting bored of watching a debate, which is self manufactured controversy and manipulated by voices and clans without any democratic credentials and public accountability.

Who are the TV anchors? Are they judges of the Supreme Court? Are they liable for their unwanted judgments?

Electronic media in India needs to learn from their worldwide counterparts. Most of the daily debates on TV channel are undiluted waste of time.

Does something come out of these debates when panelist gets not more than two minutes to speak?

TV channels are just fanning the sentiments of viewers by generating unnecessary controversies on prime time. Controversies have become the breadwinners for these self-acclaimed anchors, who distract the citizens from main agenda and feed viewers with Television’s Real Poison (TRP).

Most severe threat to our society is not from illiterates, but from `learned intellectuals' of our society whom we see on our Idiot box with unflinching regularity. Electronic media has become a virus that wants to destroy our social fabric.

With intellectual debate cornered and eschewed into the labyrinth of ignorance, can India plunge into progressive society, demonstrating free spirit, or remain the nation of petty politics?

Anchors and the team, hello, you need to work on your plans.
Wake up, and smell the coffee.

Are they playing hide and seek

Rain has stopped Salman Khan yet again to go behind the bars, Mumbai rain has played spoilsport for the judge who was appointed for his hearing didn't arrive on D-day.
Thanks to heavy pouring.

Salman was asked by court to appear on his last birthday. Aha! Was it a birthday gift or birthday blues? Alvira and Arpita his sisters appeared in court to file a petition for his exemption, how sweet of them. Finally court granted him excuse to celebrate his birthday. Heave a sigh of relief.

Recently, Salman and his co-accused bunch of stars did not appear before a court in connection with the 1998 blackbuck poaching case in Rajasthan. Freakish! Sometime court exempts him, sometime he exempts court. Smart-play.

What is going on for last fifteen years? Are they trying to make a new script? What about the climax? Bring it on. 100 crore club needs it.

A fresh verdict of court came out again on another trial case of our superstar who is often in the news for more wrong reasons than right.

Was Salman ‘Pandeyji’ Khan aware that driving in an intoxicated state will lead to accident? Well, he was. That is what a court has observed while charging him with a more serious offence of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in a decade-old hit-and-run case.

Stop playing now, everybody got sick of it. Throw some genuine results. Either set him free or put him behind bars. No more hearings.
